Rewind: HLL’s Origin

In 1885 the Lever Brothers set up “William Hesketh Lever” in England. In the year 1888, the company entered India by exporting its laundry soap “Sunlight”. In 1930, the company merged with ‘Margarine Unie’ which was a Netherlands based company, to form Unilever.
The three Indian subsidiaries of Unilever, namely the Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Company, the Lever Brothers India Ltd and the United Traders Ltd merged to form Hindustan lever limited(HLL) in the year 1956.
